Gunite/Shotcrete
- Can be formed into a custom surface, shape, and size
- 2-6 months installation time
- Higher cost of maintenance
- Various surface options from plaster to pebble tech
- Low algae resistance
- Warranties are limited
Vinyl Liner
- Moderate installation time (3-5 weeks)
- Requires replacement of liner depending on conditions

Should I install a saltwater or chlorine pool? While saltwater pools have a slightly higher upfront cost, they save time, money, and hassle year after year. This is because the salt cells convert into natural chlorine. This eliminates the need for constant chemical balancing, as well as eliminating the chemical smell and irritation of chemical chlorine on the skin and eyes. Saltwater pols are also more eco-friendly, using fewer synthetic chemicals to achieve the same results. Click here to learn more.

What is the rough starting price for a pool? Pricing varies depending on pool size, features, and site prep. We usually recommend budgeting at least around $70,000 for a fiberglass option. Compared to the average price and depreciation of a new car in 2025 ($49,000) a pool may be more affordable than many people think, especially considering that a pool can increase your home’s value by up to an average of 8%. If financing is needed, Meramec Pools and Outdoors partners with Lyon Financial Partner, the industry’s leader, to make your backyard dreams come true. Click here to learn more.

How long does it take to install a pool? If all conditions are favorable, pool installation of an entry level fiberglass pool typically takes 3-4 weeks. Some conditions can extend the time. For example, pool installation times can vary based on the type and size of the pool. The condition, shape, and size of the yard also plays a role, particularly if additional structures or retaining walls are required for proper structural grading. Weather conditions can play a role, especially those that effect soil conditions such as significant rainfall or freezing that make excavation difficult. Permitting can also affect timelines in certain areas. If landscaping or hardscaping is involved, this usually adds a week or two to the overall timeline. Can you install a pool in winter? YES! In fact, winter is a great time to install a pool, especially in the Midwest. There are multiple reasons for this.
- Shorter wait times
- More availability for custom work
- Off season pricing on materials
- Soil conditions are usually more favorable as the ground is not too wet or dry
- Your pool is ready to be open in spring or summer with no waiting
Overall, to get ready for summer, we recommend installing in the fall, winter, or early spring. Want to start planning your pool project? Contact us today for a no obligation consultation.
